How to price a social media package
Clients buy a monthly package, but you sell time. The calculator turns the content in a package into hours, multiplies by your hourly rate, and adds a buffer for revisions and admin. If you don't know your hourly rate yet, start with the freelance rate calculator.
What goes into the time per post
- Feed posts: design or photo editing, the caption, hashtags, and scheduling.
- Carousels: several frames to design and a story to tell, so usually about twice a single post.
- Reels and short videos: planning, filming or sourcing footage, editing, captions and the cover. Usually the biggest item.
- Stories: quick to make, but they add up when there are a dozen a month.
- Community management: replying to comments and messages, every week of the month.
- Planning and reporting: the content calendar, client calls and a monthly report.
Time yourself on a few real pieces and change the minutes in the calculator. Your own numbers will price better than any average.
Price the extras before the client asks
Most retainers leak money through extras: one more reel, a fourth round of changes, a post for a platform that wasn't in the plan. Put a price for each extra in your proposal, using the figures the calculator gives you, and agree how many revision rounds each piece includes.
Example packages
| Package | Content each month |
|---|---|
| Starter | 8 feed posts, 8 stories, light community management |
| Growth | 8 posts, 4 carousels, 4 reels, 12 stories, community management, monthly report |
| Full service | 12 posts, 4 carousels, 8 reels, daily stories, 2 platforms, ads planning, monthly call |
Put each one into the calculator with your own rate and times to get its price.
Bill the extras without chasing
In Kanvo, each client's monthly package lists what is included. You log each post as you deliver it, revision rounds are counted, and anything beyond the package is added to next month's invoice from your rate card. Clients approve posts on a private link, with no account. Kanvo is free for up to 3 clients.
